winter is coming

The past month has been a whirlwind of chaos. The company I work for moved to a bigger place and our space is awesome! The design room is huge and I am in a happy place now. I've also been DIYing like a DIY queen. I had a whole to do list just waiting to be done and I finally got around to doing some of my DIY projects. I customized a denim jacket of mine with a fringed ethnic print fabric (Mexican blanket that I purchased in Olvera street for $8!) then I started creating designs and painting on my ceramic plates.  Spicing up my kitchenware. It's a cheaper alternative to buying those expensive and amazing plates at anthro. I've also been eyeing these amazing baroque boots at Zara but they're $170, so I made my own and it only cost me a total of $8 bucks to create my beautiful babies. I've been productive and more active with life in general. I don't enjoy feeling like a lazy butt because when you get too comfortable then you get used to that feeling and that ain't never good.
Other than that, I have been enjoying this amazing cold weather. There have been nights when I wasn't enjoying it because I wasn't fully prepared but now I know that it's getting that cold that I don't have to contemplate on wearing a coat. Now I know, it's gonna be super duper cold at night and I better be freaking prepared! Now that I am in sync with the weather, I have been pulling out all my fall favorites and channeling my Penny Lane, pulling out my cords, paisleys, hats and 70s radical child. P.S. my hair is getting long and it's getting more fun to flip my hair when I rock out to Led Zep. Enjoy the cold weather everyone. Here's what my life has been lately:

DIY shreddingggg

So I've been wanting to take on a DIY t-shirt shredding project for a while now and I finally got around to do it! There have been a couple of t-shirts that have lost that specialness they once had to me and Im gonna shred em like crazy. I watched a tutorial on how to properly shred so I wouldn't make any mistakes and was not looking forward to it when Childhood Flames said it took her 5-6 hours!?? Well I took an already kind of loose knit tank I had and shredded it UNDER 30 MINUTES! thats the trick guys! Well now I'm obsessed with it and I pile on a bunch of necklaces with it. In love with ma new creation!

DIY: found objects

Okay so ive been making loads of things these past couple of days cause i've had so much free time. I got back into making mixed media art, cause i need more wall decor, i picked up my jewelry making again and yesterday I dug through my fabric boxes and decided to make things?! yup, im just a crafty machine right now. you cant stop me, i aint gonna stop! im like an old crafty lady on acid.( i make too many references about old ladies, its basically what i am). I started making patterns last night and finished one top then picked up on it again today and finished two tops. its just so splendid to get back to doing things you love. My jewelry making erupted when the new year started. i told myself i would be more proactive and i have been. I've finished so many pieces that I can't even post them all up. I'll post some up later but this is what ive got to show so far:
this piece isnt quite done yet. its gonna have a more intricate chain design to it. but i found the pendant? part at the flea market. its like a small leather booklet and when you open it up there are a bunch of old hanging keys. it fuckin brilliant!

I found a bag of old tapestry rope at a second hand store years ago and bought it on impulse thinking id find SOMETHING to do with it and i have! made this piece with home depot hardware as well.
these were a little more time consuming. I took some scrap fabrics, sewed them into tubes(same method as making spagetti straps for tops) then stuffed them with cotton to give them a more cylinder 3d look. grabbed some hardware pieces and viola! they are made out of jersey so no need for closures. they stretch like a mother. so they fit on anyone.

RESULT!

going back to the things i love

I've been constantly working, going to school and doing schoolwork that I have completely stopped doing what I love: creating!
I got home from work tonight and decided to just dabble a little in my jewelry making again, and then i got even crazier and pulled out my mixed media folders filled with things i have been wanting to turn into a mixed media collage for all the blank canvases i have in my closet. So i made progress tonight!!

tri-obsession

triangles, trapeze prints, trinidad...fucking TRIPODS!
its been a while since ive posted cause i was busy with the fashion show, but im done now and now I can share all my latest obsessions, loves blah blah blah. so ive been constantly surrounding myself with super minimal styles. Ive been into the really new age kind of healing, using crystal healing stones, flourites and all that jazz. and as I was as i was finalizing my final for my dye processes class, i came to a GENIUS inspiration! it was the stones, the blends and  the fluorescence they give off in the light, the gem stones, the colors, the textures and the shapes!! i couldn't stop designing triangle, circle and panel tops. ive become obsessed. everywhere i shop now i constantly just see these images in my head. im kind of a new age freak now who has an infatuation with geometry. i think ive found my calling! shyea shyea! i just finished my moon crop top with a kimono sleeve design! thats another thing that inspired me: space and constellations and milky ways. im a nerd. now shhh.

the crafty girl

I will be selling DIY eco-friendly accessories at a fashion show booth at Saddleback in South Orange County this thursday, they are looking so cute! stop by if you live around the area. And I am also currently working on a final collection for my fabric dyes class! It's gonna be a really urban type of minimalist dress collection. every dress is gonna have a kimono shape, but there will be a different installation of a contrasting fabric from which I dyed in class. I'm trying to go for a very edgy yet minimalist yet different shapes and all that jazz!
these are just a few of the inspirations I've been getting:
