So I am in this fabric dye processes class and we have to do some type of final where we turn our dyed fabrics into some type of "product." I thought this would be great for designing actual garments. some students are doing sock monkeys from socks they dyed, some are doing pillows and i decided to take all the excess muslin i have at home and turn that into good use!
Basically what i've done is dyed just long panels of muslin with different type of dyes. at most only 3 COLORS. i like to keep it minimal. I used an easy and organic technique where i would just manually scrunch up the fabric and create random and unexpected patterns in my fabric. I wanted to create a space/constellations kind of milky way effect. im obsessed with those type of images! my favorite ones are the rustic browns i made and the blacks! VERY AMAZING contrast with the muslin's natural cream color.
And since im kind of obsessed with minimalism and shapes I went ahead and designed a couple of different kimono sleeve designs and added shape installations. I lovee triangles!!! my favorite shape. yes, i am obsessed with shapes...im a nerd. I just finished my lavender cropped kimono sleeve top with a circle shape installation at the front and back. OBSESSED! I DIE!
this is what i've got developed so far:
