Change!

This is my first post coming to ya via Portland City! I have officially moved in and love the cold, wet weather. I guess this move explains my absence, its been a busy few weeks. But I am settled in now with high speed internet! I may be a little too late to post on NYFW but I'm going to anyways because I have to shout out my love to these two collections. Every season I look at all the runways and love them all! But there are only a few collections that I stick to for my #1 look to keep in mind till spring. It's always the small details that catch my eye, like last fall my obsession was coral, camel and brown outfit combinations. I have only looked at a couple of shows and already picked my go to combination thanks to RAG&BONE!
Rag&Bone is always my first show to look at. They always have those basic piece but are all about layering and creating those silhouettes with their layering. Trust me when I say I am already looking for my neon orange blazer cause when spring comes, all I'll be wearing is Neon Orange and bright blue combinations.
And next on my list is Mara Hoffman! She started off with bathing suit collections and now has moved on to bigger things. THANK GOD! Her spring 2011 collection has captured my heart, body and soul. Mara encapsulated everything that I love in her collection. From the prints, to the jewelry. Were basically design twins.

Emma Mullholland Spring/Summer 2011/2012

It takes a lot of appreciation from me to mention, let alone shout out a collection on my blog. I decided a while back that there is no need to talk about collections on my blog because there are so many other people out there doing that job for me. But when I come across a rising star with a spectacular collection, I HAVE TO MENTION IT! Of course all the big designers always have great collections but they dont need me to tell you guys all that. Well hear comes the next big star: EMMA MULLHOLLAND. This Emma is a gem, a pure gem. And her collection is extremely appropriate for summer weather. I just recently stumbled upon her graduate collection and it is BLINDING! She recently collabed with famous photographer, Byron Spencer to shoot her collection and both minds combined was the best thing to do. I love this collection, its got this 90s beachy look to it with layering of textures and fabrics, annoying(good) bright colors, kaleidescope-esque prints and mixing and matching of all of this together in one outfit. My gaud its just what I needed. The fix I needed.
P.S. I leave for South America this friday so tomorrow I will leave you lovers an amazing post! I will miss you all but ill be back.

SOLILOQUY 88 is a fashion film collaboration between Jason Last & art director Jaime Rubiano.

Commissioned for Hintmag, the film features Rodarte's spring 2010 collection, with shoes by Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte.

hand accents

there are a lot of things one can accomplish in a mere hour. its funny how i can be this productive to looking at fashion obsessively on the web, and work on designs on the computer. but when it comes to actually making my jewelry line, i lack in the consistency and strive to finish it all. right now my line is in ruins, a couple of pieces here and there. but nothing too concrete. i promise i will get my crap together and start tonight. i dont care if i stay up all night, im doing it. anways,  i just spent rigorous time with going B A nanas over a couple of things. for now i will leave you with one big thing, and that is my infatuation with hands!! okay okay, that may sound a bit creepy, but its not. i promise im not some creepy person with hand and foot fetishes.

so hussein chalayan, literally my favorite designer of all time has come out with a brilliant spring 2010 collection. i gasped when i saw it, and died TWICE! Chalayan has grabbed inspiration from of course architecture, like always, and expanded that into bringing molded clay hands into the picture. its genius i tell you! he molded white hands and used them as centerpieces for this collection, as a central point for his draping pieces. ohhhh Hussein, can i call you Hussein? you are a genius and i want you to pick me as your prodigy, pretty please!!! i will make as many clay hands as you want, and i will be there at your side to test your insane mechanical and robotic dresses! in this scenario, im talking to Hussein, just in case if you were wondering.

but enough about Hussein, if you are a fashion savy gal like me, then you will remember the Comme Des Garcons 2007 fall collection with bunny ear head pieces and minnie mouse hats right? remember? well remember how there were hand accents on the clothing as well!!?! yup back in 2007 Comme Des Garcons used hands on the skirts and tops for the collection. this one is different because CDG used fabric to make the hands and just stuffed them. but it was still as equally amazing. so everyone definitely should watch out for hand accents because its coming, and its gonna SLAP US IN THE FACE!

and of course muse/fashionista Leo Cerezo snagged herself a Comme Des Garcons skirt which she manages to make an outfit look even more superb just by wearing it

Paris

i just love paris. apart from the eiffel tower, glittering, effervescent night lights and charming cuisine, paris is a dreamland for fashion. And during fashion week photographers round up a series of photos of wandering fashionistas outside the fashion shows. I've always been intrigued with looking at images of street style from all corners of the world from madrid, buenos aires, montreal, brazil but more so to paris. parisian women tend to dress in literally the most outstanding clothing ever. with fur coats and flowing black satin dresses, and these women can never let me down because they ALWAYS have to accessorize with tights and the most amazing pair of footwear designs in the world, from 4 inch booties to swede/gold strap heels. just a marvelous selection of women and men who go to great extents to look good on the sidewalks of paris.

they glide through the parks of paris, towering in their stilettos while inhaling on their skinny cigarettes as they rush to the next show. dont you just love it.

Shoulder pads

okay i must admit i was a little on the edge when i heard shoulder pads were coming back. the hair on my arms rose up, and gave me goosebumps. I feared that we were returning to 80/90's when women wore ugly colored pants suits, with enormous shoulder pads that made you 5 times wider than your original body. it was horrible news for me, but like always genius fashion designers find a way to relieve that stress and fear and once again impress their followers, such as myself. who ever thought shoulder pads from the 90s could be even more exaggerated, yet look flattering, futuristic and incredibly chic.

i was looking at some runway shows, and began to crave the hunger to own a good piece with modern shoulder pads. givenchy and balmain showed what they can do to our ugly's past, and transformed shoulder pads by going minimalistic, and going glamorous. i was drooling over Balmains one shoulder cocktail sequined dress, with the one extreme shoulder. it was amazing, and givenchy's minimalist black dresses, with a futuristic feel to it.

well after long much thought, and convincing, i decided shoulder pads today are okay in my book. and im on my way to go hunting for some good vintage to reconstruct and make on my own.

ta ta. go do the same. lets go out into this world looking like we want a better, and cooler looking future.

mm RODARTE

long over due, but Rodarte from fall 09 fashion week was just impeccable. with the models pure orange streaky hair, and exaggerated leather thigh highs, it kind of had a futuristic yet savage look to it. for some random odd reason i was reminded of Aldous Huxley's, Brave New World and how the savages would dress. but im strange like that. but i am definitely looking foward to finding my hardcore boucle fringe coat for fall 09, and my oh so sexy leather chaps i plan to make on my own.

i go to fashion school, so i am obviously not afraid to go beyond orginality, and go beyond what seems normal. but i strongly advice you do the same. the world would be a better place if people actually had an interest in dressing well, and dare to be creative. i hate seeing people walking around in disgusting and unflattering abercombie jeans and t-shirts. i like guys who wear blazers with tight but not too tight pants, with worn out dress shoes. and girls who wear dresses once in a while, and shop somewhere else other than forever 21. jeez. get it together america, we are in an economic crisis here. that was completely unrelevant but i wanted to write it.

michael pitt for new Yves Saint Laurent short film

"vous le rêve de mes caresses, de sentir mon baiser. je veux entendre le son de six fermetures à glissière...chuchotant sur vous a déboutonné la chemise de crêpe..."

"you dream of my caresses, of feeling my kiss. i want to hear the sound of six zippers....whispering on you unbuttoned crepe shirt..."

michael pitt the guy who played Kurt Cobain in Gus Van Sant's film "Last Days" stars in the new Yves Saint Laurent short film for menswear 2009. its erotic and beautiful. all you see in the video is michael pitt and his lucious lips in black and white just staring as if he was staring at you. while a lady speaks in french about the beauties and erotic ways she thinks and feels when clothes touch her skin. she speaks of crepe de chine, silk, wool muslin, flannel, chiffon and many many more.
